Once upon a Time…on a very sunny island far, far away, there was a wedding. Two soulmates from opposite ends of the planet stood face to face in that secret garden that day, declaring their love and commitment to each other, their two children beside them, surrounded by their dearest family and closest friends.
I was lucky enough to be one of those friends and that wedding day went down in our collective history as one of the greatest marriage celebrations of all time. An event created by the pure love that these two beautiful people had for one other. Together -and with a little help from their friends, they did it their way, with little or no rules or regulations to speak of. Just a very bespoke and personal celebration of their love for each other.
And what a gorgeous wedding ceremony it was, all of us gathered there in the open air, in a garden full of love and laughter and life for the first half of the ceremony, beautiful words spoken by a lovely lady celebrant. And from there to the beach where our couple sealed their love with a sand ceremony, the Mediterranean Sea lapping at the shore metres away…
Bride, groom, their lovely kids and all the guests, young and old; all of us dressed in white, all dancing in the sun to our favourite family DJs, cheesy grins reflecting off our smartest threads.
All in all, surely the very happy ending /new beginning that wedding dreams are made of. Congratulations, J&G- in all the ways…
It also happens that that was the day I had a bit of an epiphany… and as I watched the proceedings as a guest, I became fascinated with the idea of becoming a wedding celebrant myself. It was an idea I would let germinate for a while and come back to later…
And come back to it, I did. Fast forward a few years, having left my sunny island home and come back to Northern Ireland, and with a new baby in my arms, it was time to leave my old career behind and look at the idea seriously. So, in Spring of 2016, after completing my studies, I qualified as a bona fide, independent civil celebrant, and embarked on an exciting new chapter in my life.
It’s a role which I take very seriously, and how could I not? I have the pleasure and the privilege of creating unforgettable memories through a bespoke civil ceremony for soulmates on their special wedding day. And as if by magic, it happens that I already possessed all the other skills I needed to make it happen. Putting them all together to make my new beginning and this, well, this may well be the best job ever….because love, love is all you need, all you need is love…
